York County Real Estate
York County, South Carolina embodies the true historical spirit of the state. Walk the county grounds and feel the history of Revolutionary War battles in the air. York County real estate is most sought after by commuters who enjoy the best of both worlds, an area that offers small town living with easy access to big city life. Conveniently located near I-77, this major highway makes access to larger cities such as Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbia, South Carolina a breeze. I-85 which hits the boundary of York County and intersects I-77 also provides county residents access to Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, the North Carolina Research Triangle area, and Atlanta, Georgia. York County also offers residents access to nearby Charlotte/Douglas International and Rock-Hill County airports. The county offers many relocation options, encompassing towns such as Clover, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Clay, and York.
Legend has it that an oversaturated ground began to spontaneously develop patches of clover, playfully giving the town of Clover its name. The clover patches soon gave way to an economically explosive textile community as well as a population of over 4,000 residents. One of the largest cities in the state, nearby Rock Hill's claim to fame is its current community project, the comprehensive restoration of the White Home -- the first house ever built in the town. The vicinity of both these areas has grown and benefited from the urban sprawl of nearby larger cities like Charlotte and Gastonia. The textile industry has become increasingly important in York County in the twentieth century. Fort Mill, another booming town, is home to Springs Industries, the makers of such popular home linen brands as Wamsutta, Springmaid, Bali, and Regal. Located conveniently near I-77 in eastern York County, the town has experienced exponential growth in the past few years; from 1990 to 1998, the town grew from approximately 17,000 residents to 25,000. Experts have projected the prime market including of York County real estate to grow to over 35,000 residents by the year 2015.
In contrast to the rich history of York County, Tega Clay, meaning "beautiful peninsula" in Polynesian, has recently sectioned off three areas. The first is Stonecrest, which will inhabit the city's first planned retail and commercial properties and contribute townhomes and condos to the list of York County real estate offerings. Crescent will also inhabit new clusters of townhouses, and finally, Nivens Creek Landing will serve as a residential boat ramp. With its motto, "The Good Life," newly-developed Tega Clay is also located near I-77 and is home to over 4,000 residents. Experts project the town to more than double its population by 2010.
The town of York serves as the county seat and the center of the county's government. The historic landmark of Congress Street draws visitors to its theatres, restaurants and shops. The city is home to such historic structures as the Rose Hotel-built in 1852 and now completely renovated as apartments, the Gothic Revival First Presbyterian Church-designed in 1846 by famed Charleston architect Robert Walker, and the York County Courthouse-designed by Robert Mills, credited for the design of the Washington Monument and the U.S. Treasury.
Besides its rich history, York County offers appealing attractions such as the rollercoasters, water rides and various shows of Paramount's Carowinds, the natural beauty of the Anne Springs Close Greenway, the shopping and dining at Manchester Village, and the fishing, wakeboarding and peaceful lakefront residential properties at Lake Wylie. The county also offers sports enthusiasts nearby Bank of America Stadium, Knights Castle, Charlotte Coliseum, and Lowes Motor Speedway. To contrast the moderately warm climate of South Carolina, the Blue Ridge Mountains and seasonal snow skiing are only two hours away.
