Independence Park is the oldest park in Charlotte and features a beautiful gazebo and rose garden as well as a playground, athletic facilities and picnic areas. The park also pays homage to a woman who risked her life saving a child in the Carolina Mountains with the bronze and stone Arhelger Memorial. A relic from the Revolutionary War, the Rural Hill Farm belonged to war patriot Major John Davidson and features three homes that were occupied by six generations of this family for more than 200 years.
